The dining scene in Savannah has never been more vibrant and this 2021 entry onto the playing field not only raises the game it stomps most of the competition into the grass.

Done by the same people who created Farm in nearby Bluffton, South Carolina, this place takes the farm to table concept and amps it up a few thousand notches with insanely fresh and inventive cuisine served in a stunningly restored mansion. It’s decidedly fine dining – worthy of special occasions – but it doesn’t feel at all stuffy or pretentious, and people were just as comfortable in shorts and sandals as they were in suits and dresses.

The menu changes often but the focus here is on fresh flavors, vegetables, and locally sourced ingredients. Although not explicitly labeled, there are what amount to small plates and large ones, which you can usually deduce by the prices, but the waitstaff is fantastic so they’ll be happy to guide you through the options.

Expect to find some seafood small plates like oysters, served with fun additives like spicy watermelon or horseradish; lots of veggie friendly options like lettuces done with ricotta and blackberry or grilled carrots in pecan milk with peppers, raisin, honey, and herb oil; a pasta or two; and a handful of entrees involving seafood, beef, poultry, and more. If they have the chicken shawarma when you visit, do yourself a favor and order it. It’s life changing.

The only less than divine note on our visit was dessert, which sounded like a light, summery treat with lemon and sponge cake, but had dark, smoky flavors that weren’t bad, just weren’t what we were looking for.

In other markets, the prices charged here wouldn’t be blinked at, but they are admittedly high for Savannah. Expect at least $75 per person once you add in a cocktail, tax, and tip, more if you go for the pricey steaks that usually come in around the $60 mark by themselves.

Food, in general, shouldn’t cost that much but when it does it should be as special and memorable as it is here.
