Review
The building in which this museum and cultural center operates was a school, first opened in 1856 for poor children in Savannah and, after the civil war, became the first school in Savannah dedicated for black children. The reason that didn’t last long, and the history of education in Savannah, are key elements of this facility, which also takes a look at local history, architecture, and more.
The rambling facility has a lot to look at and the exhibits are well presented, although those looking for a high-tech, interactive experience like those find in more modern museums and intepretive centers might be disappointed. Still, the history of Savannah is a fascinating one and if you don’t mind a lot of reading you can learn a lot about it here.
