Review

River Street doesn’t always have the best reputation when it comes to food. Many of the restaurants along this tourist magnet serve decent, but unexceptional food, designed to fill you up and get you out so they can clean off your table and get the next people in the door.

Lizzy’s is a notch above that, with a wide variety of menu options and a low-key vibe that feels removed from the typical chaos of the neighborhood.

Starters are mostly of the bar food variety – nachos, wings, tots, and the fried green tomatoes that might be required by law at this point. There are a number of salad options if you’re feeling like you’ve had too much fried food lately, but you will be forgiven if your eyes immediately go to the burger list, which is massive.

A dozen different varieties offer toppings from the typical (BBQ and bacon) to the off-the-beaten path (a quesadilla burger with guac, queso, and pepper jack wrapped in a grilled tortilla for instance).

But it doesn’t stop there. They have tacos, sliders, sandwiches, quesadillas, and more so you’re almost assured to find something that makes your stomach say “Yes, I want that!”

Prices are typical River Street, which is to say a few bucks more than what you’ll pay at similar restaurants elsewhere, but you can still do a good meal here for around $20 so that’s not bad.
