Review
A stunning redevelopment of an abandoned power plant has turned the formerly derelict west end of River Street into a bustling entertainment, dining, shopping, and lodging destination that changes the game for Savannah as a tourist destination.
The JW Marriott hotel is the centerpiece, featuring a soaring central hall carved out of the gorgeous old power building that features restaurants, bars, lounges, shops, artwork, and a massive chrome-plated dinosaur hanging above the whole thing. While it can be a little overwhelming, it’s all boldly visual in an endlessly interesting way and the adaptive reuse of the historic structure is delightful.
Outside are dancing fountains, similar in concept to the Bellagio Fountains in Las Vegas, albeit much smaller in size and scope, offering shows every 30 minutes with dancing water, colorful lights, and music. You’ll also find more stores and restaurants an extension of the River Walk, perfect for strolling and photo opportunities.
They offer tours, dinosaur classes for kids, yoga, piano concerts, and more.
There’s also the neighboring Atlantic Building with a live-entertainment music venue and a 400-space parking garage.
Definitely worth a visit.
