Review

Fresh, seasonal, local, and sustainable are the watchwords here with an oft-changing menu full of southern influenced delights.

There are two parts to the dining room, one that is more or less an extension of the Andaz lobby and one that is a little more secluded. If it’s open, opt for the latter if you don’t want to feel like you’re on display to the hotel guests.

It would be a shame to not try one of their cocktails, which get a lot of acclaim for their precision, craft construction, and fine ingredients that include everything from house-made syrups to edible glitter.

Breakfast is pretty simple with items like oatmeal, omelets, a frittata, and shrimp and grits. Dinner goes heavy on the small plates with items like fried green tomatoes and shrimp, hot dog sliders, braised pork chili, and a flatbread. A couple of sandwich/burger options and a few entrees like roasted chicken or shrimp and grits round out the choices. If they are offering anything pork, go for it – the braised pork loin done with a robust reduction and roasted potatoes was delightful as was the mac and cheese with candied bacon, although there’s no guarantee those will be on the menu when you get there.

Prices are typical for a hotel restaurant in the heart of the Historic District, which is to say higher than average, but the quality and flavor of the food make it worth considering anyway.
