What do you get when you add a little Hawaiin influence to south of the border favorites? Well, it might look a little something like Bull Street Taco, a Mexican joint with an aloha vibe. Located in the Starland District this funky little cantina has indoor and outdoor seating with a laid back atmosphere and subtle surf shop decor.
Consider starting with the street corn on the cob, done with cojita cheese, chiles, lime, and basil cream. Yum. But after that, unsurprisingly, tacos are the centerpiece of the menu, focusing on the “street” variety served in organic handmade tortillas with some interesting ingredients included. The chicken comes with pineapple hibiscus pickled onions and the carnitas come with agave roasted pineapple, but it’s not all 808 all the time. Check out the chorizo with potato and the ground beef, which is sort of a burger in taco form with greens and spicy ketchup.
There are a handful of other options – tostada, burrito, rice bowls, and salads but the tacos really are the star of the show. They also have a limited beer, wine, margarita, and sangria menu.
Prices are more than reasonable with a single taco running you $3-5 and the aforementioend other options in the $10-15 range.
