Huey’s
Savannah Restaurants > Huey’s
Review
Not going to lie – there are a lot of tourist trap restaurants along River Street, places with big menus, high prices, and food that sometimes stretches just to be adequate.
While Huey’s doesn’t fall into that category, it certainly isn’t the finest of fine dining in Savannah. There are better places to go here. But if you’re looking for hearty, stick-to-your-ribs food and you’re simply too hungry to go exploring anything other than River Street, Huey’s has you covered.
The menu is wide ranging but is heavily influenced with New Orleans-style Cajun and Creole dishes. Start with a bowl of their flavorful gumbo, done right with chicken, andouille sausage, and okra. Then move onto main courses like a muffaletta (Italian meats with provolone and olive spread), various “po boys” (roast beef, shrimp, catfish), jambalaya pasta or shrimp creole, or go full French Quarter with some classic red beans and rice.
There are other options – from burger to steak – but those seem like afterthoughts on the menu.
As with most River Street restaurants, the prices are higher than what you would normally pay for this type and quality of food – figure at least $25 per person for lunch and more for the bigger entrees at dinner – but it’s not out of line with what lesser restaurants nearby charge.
If the weather is nice, try to get a table outside to watch the parade of River Street humanity pass you by.
