Review

Let’s start with the setting.  They took the old Greyhound Bus depot, built in 1938, and restored it to its full Art Deco-era glory.  Take a moment to appreciate the details, from the light fixtures to the floors to the soda counter style bar.  Everywhere you look is eye candy.

The restaurant serves upscale spins on classic southern food all artfully presented with the utmost of attention to detail.  You have an option of a four- or six-course meal, but you’ll have to trust them because they don’t publish a menu ahead of time, changing it nightly and sometimes within the course of the evening.  Past visits have drawn things like a pork chop done in peppers and onions, roasted yard bird (chicken for you Yankees) in a curry sauce, and a caramel cheesecake with popcorn for dessert.

Eater called this the best restaurant in America and the divine dishes offer abundant evidence why.

It’s not cheap, but this is one of those occasions when it is totally worth it. Make your reservations at least a couple of weeks in advance.
