Review

Delightfully unexpected is a great way to describe this charming little Greek café and market.

You don’t expect to find authentic Greek food in a place like Savannah, Georgia. And even if you did, you wouldn’t expect to find it in the middle of a mostly residential, upscale neighborhood like Ardsley Park. And if you did expect all that, you probably wouldn’t expect it to be all that good or affordable. And yet all of those things are true about Yia Yia’s.

Surrounded by stately homes and well-manicured lawns, Yia Yia’s has two functions. One is a café with a few indoor and outdoor tables that serves a healthy variety of Greek favorites including gyros, souvlaki, and moussaka among others along with Greek twists on things like salads, hot dogs, subs, and pizza. Go traditional for the gyro, served with tender beef and lamb, fresh veggies, and delicious tzatziki sauce but be warned – their “Big Fat 9”” version (their words, not mine) is massive and impossible for most normal humans to eat in one sitting.

The others side of the space is a Greek market with pasta, cheese, spices, sauces, wine, and more, allowing you to bring a little Mediterranean flavor home with you.

There’s also a huge pastry case that you’re going to want to move into, with traditional desserts like baklava and cannoli plus cheesecake and more.

Prices are downright cheap (most items are under $10), service is friendly, and the flavors are fantastic. Highly recommended.
